Stories and Updates
This past month, we’ve continued our campaign against the exploitation of migrant labor, working to showcase how marginalization and discriminatory laws that target migrant communities fuel exploitation. We’ve added updates to our hotline and resource database, released a know-your-rights guide in English and Spanish for migrant workers in the US, and created educational videos and downloadable resources. You can access these and more resources and action items on our campaign page [https://coalitionagainstmodernslavery.org/migration-justice-in-u-s]. Last month, we had an incredible teach-in with Project South, where members learned about forced labor abuses in migrant detention facilities. This week, we had another coalition call, where members from Eastern Europe, South Sudan, and Sri Lanka joined to share about the work they are doing to protect migrant workers and exchange ideas.
Action Items
Here are some actions that you can take as we work towards a world free from forced labor, human trafficking, and the systemic inequalities that perpetuate exploitation! For additional action items, see our Action Library!
- Call US elected officials about supporting immigrant rights and protect T-Visas. For those in the United States, this can include calling the congressional switchboard at (202) 224 - 3121 and asking for your representative or senators. Find your elected officials here: https://www.congress.gov/members/find-your-member.
- Review our Gift Buying Guide and learn about industries that have high forced labor risk, ways to minimize harm when making purchases, and number of enterprises created by and/or in support of survivors.
- Sign our pledge to boycott abusive farming practices in rural Sri Lanka! And support our members who are crowdfunding to expand education access in their community.
Member spotlight:
We want to highlight the incredible work of a member of The Coalition: Engage Now Africa. At the end of last month, Engage Now Africa organized a seminar on human trafficking with Ensign Global University Ghana, bringing together 57 participants, including medical professionals, gender advocates, and doctors. The conference focused on anti-trafficking strategies, including identifying warning signs of trafficking, prevention, and the role of public health professionals in combatting exploitation.

Call for Collaborative opportunity in the fight against modern slavery and human trafficking
At the International Coalition Against Modern Slavery, we believe that lasting change in the fight against modern slavery and human trafficking requires collective action. Change doesn’t come from the top down – it comes from all of us working together to organize, raise awareness, and take action.
