Help strengthen education capacity in rural Sri Lanka

The human rights abuse and limited education on tea plantations in rural Sri Lanka are direct results of British colonialism. Currently, our partners are organizing to strengthen the capacity of tea plantation schools, ensuring Tamil youth can complete their education, helping to reduce vulnerability to labor trafficking and other forms of abuse. Demand tea companies act against abuse on Sri Lankan tea plantations

Script: Hello, I am a member of the International Coalition Against Modern Slavery. It has come to my attention that your company sources from Sri Lankan Tea plantations, where rampant human rights abuses, including forced labor, have been documented. More must be done to ensure workers are paid a living wage, receive fair treatment, and work without force, threats, and coercion.

Tell UN ambassadors to reaffirm their commitment to implementing SDG 8.7

States must "reaffirm their commitment, in the strongest terms possible, to the full, effective, and meaningful implementation of SDG 8.7". The recent UN summit saw vast failure to address SDG 8.7. This goal calls for, "immediate and effective measures to eradicate forced labour, end modern slavery and human trafficking". Read the full letter here, and send to your ambassador/connections in government.

Tell Rishi Sunak to abandon the illegal migration bill!

The act would prevent migrants who arrive through irregular channels of migration from being granted asylum – no matter if they are minors, modern slavery victims, or fleeing persecution. The UN stated this will have “profound consequences for people in need of international protection”. By criminalizing survivors and abandoning vulnerable populations, the bill will drastically fuel exploitation. https://www.jcwi.org.uk/not-in-our-name-sign-our-open-letter-to-the-pm

    Mutual aid for Sudan

Supporting refugees is key to combating vulnerabilities which lead to trafficking and exploitation. Migrants, especially those fleeing conflict, are disproportionately affected by this crisis. You can donate here to support efforts to aid those in Sudan. So far, the money has gone to buying food, baby formula for refugees arriving in Medani, orphanages, shelters for homeless individuals, and more. 100% of the money goes to on the ground aid teams. https://gofund.me/849cf489

    Educate/advocate: migration and traffickin

Assisting migrants — through safe channels of migration, protecting undocumented populations, the right to work, etc. — is key to preventing trafficking. Yet, far too often a lack of understanding causes human trafficking and smuggling to be wrongly conflated, leading to policies that end up leaving migrants vulnerable. What you can do:
